The Truth About Coping With Adult Acne

One of the hardest things to deal with as a teenager is acne. At a time in their lives, where hormonal changes are causing all kinds of emotional stresses and strains on even the most balanced teen,along comes another psychological problem the skin condition acne. The negative effect on confidence and self esteem is very severe.

If you have gone long beyond your teen years and are coping with adult acne, you may have many concerns such as the cause and source of your acne. A large percentage of acne sufferers are teenagers, but more and more adults are suffering from this skin condition.

As teenagers, acne always seemed to be more prevalent in boys, that’s not to say a fair proportion of girls weren’t affected as well, but it was always more active in boys. However, the trend has turned around in adults. Women now seem to become the victims of adult acne far more than males. Hence the interest in the relation between acne and hormones.

Acne that is caused by a hormone fluctuation in women usually does not occur until the woman is in her mid to late twenties. It is an unfortunate fact that this form of acne can last many years, often until a woman goes through menopause.

Fortunately, there are a variety of treatment options that are available for adult acne. When you are coping with adult acne, your doctor may prescribe many types of medications like antibiotics and topical creams to be used together so that you can combat acne from multiple angles.

The birth control pill has been known to help regulate the hormones on a woman’s body, which will eliminate or help reduce the acne symptoms in women. If you are not already on the birth control pill, and you are suffering from acne, then you may want to try starting on the pill so that you can have your hormones regulated. If hormones are what is causing your acne, then you can definitely notice a difference when those hormones are regulated.

If you happen to be inflicted with a particularly oily skin, one major mistake that we all make is to wash our skin to vigorously or even too often. This has the effect of inflaming the skin even more. Try to approach this a little more gently.

There is no necessity to give up your make up entirely, but cosmetic choice is a very important aspect of acne control. Oil based products, really have to confined to the bin. Better yet don’t even buy them.
