Managing Adhd Children As A Parent

We all want the best for our children. We want them to grow up healthy and strong. We want them to get good jobs and be successful and we want them to be happy. Every child plays and gets hyper and distracted every now and then, it’s a part of being a kid and of growing up. For those children that are overly hyper and get confused or distracted often, they may have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or ADHD.

Currently, there are a number of different medicines and therapies available to help children with this condition, but you may be wondering if there is anything else you can do to help your child. You will find that some foods may help ADHD and others may be good to limit or avoid for a child with ADHD. If you know the different foods to eat and which ones to avoid, then you will be able to help your child with this disorder, to become happier and healthier for the future.

When looking at ADHD in children, there have been a number of studies that have been carried out to investigate the causes of ADHD in children. The findings from these have shown that this could be as a result of an individual’s diet and certain deficiencies in particular vitamins and minerals. Some of these do include omega 3 fatty acids, Vitamin C, zinc, and iron.

Not getting enough Omega 3 fatty acids has been linked to some symptoms of ADHD and some children with ADHD show other symptoms of an Omega 3 fatty acid deficiency such as dry skin and hair, thirst, and frequent urination. Some studies have shown that children with ADHD that were given fish oil supplements shown some improvements.

Also, some studies have found that children with ADHD may have more food allergies and they lose vitamins due to be allergic to foods such as: wheat, corn, soy, citrus, chocolate, eggs, artificial colors and preservatives. Some children with ADHD may also be allergic to food dye and in studies when these foods were taken away, some symptoms showed improvement. Giving children with ADHD zinc and iron supplements seemed to improve symptoms in some cases.

It is important to stay away from food additives and anything children with ADHD may be allergic to; this may help improve the symptoms. It may also be helpful to add Vitamin C supplements because this may help to improve some symptoms. It is also important to consult a doctor about any other concerns and to continue medicines and regular routine checkups.

Many people also believe in the importance of the correct type and quantity for children with ADHD, so they can live healthier in life, but also because certain vitamins and minerals could cause ADHD symptoms to become worse. Which is the sole reason you should monitor what your child eats and that they eat a healthy and balanced diet - as well as complete regular exercise. Resulting in a child with ADHD being healthier and happier in the long term.
