Drug therapy is the only appropriate treatment for acquired angioedema. It should be closely monitored to ensure that any adverse effects are caught and rectified immediately.
Some cases may not require treatment. In some instances cool compresses or soaks can provide relief from pain and discomfort. Any breathing difficulty classifies it as an emergency condition.
Medications used to effectively used as treatment include: antihistamines, corticosteroids, Tagamet, epinephrine, bronchodilators, etc. For relief from breathing difficulty individuals should immediately seek medical aid. In a hospital setting a tube may be placed in the throat in order to keep the airway open and relieve the breathing difficulty.
Summary: Patients undergoing Angioedema Treatment should always be monitored closely. Drug treatments can have adverse effects. Some even having the possibility to exacerbate the symptoms making the condition escalate to even more uncomfortable and/or dangerous levels. If a patient feels any worsening of symptoms or experiences any new discomfort, a physician should be consulted immediately.
