Well, you could be excited to know that based primarily on fresh studies, the Mediterranean diet can help lower white matter hyperintensity volume. Just why is this considered critical? <p>White matter hyperintensities represent injury and loss of blood flow to the axons: brain cells whose function is to facilitate communication between the nerves. While everyone previously thought that these white matter hyperintensities (also known as &#8220;brain rust&#8221;) were just harmless enigmas that naturally come with ageing, Director Charles DeCarli of the UC Davis Alzheimer&#8217;s Disease Center believed otherwise. And this inspired him to initiate an intensive research on the connection between the presence of these so-called &#8220;brain rust&#8221; and one or two neurological conditions including diabetes, hypertension, atherosclerosis, stroke and heart attack.</p>
<p> <b>Director DeCarli&#8217;s research</b> pointed to the fact that these ambiguities damage the frontal lobes and impair the brain&#8217;s ability to store and process information. However , his research also suggested that a healthy diet, such as the Mediterranean way of eating, can aid in preventing the conditions that may well lead to increased white matter hyperintensity volume.</p>
<p>That&#39;s good news for everybody.</p>
<p>In a similar fashion, a recent study published in the Feb 2012 issue of the <i> <b>Archives of Neurology </b> </i>suggested that a healthy diet can effectively prevent the onset and expansion of brain rust. The study team headed by <b>Hannah Gardener, ScD, of the School of Miami Miller School of Medication</b>, conducted a cross-sectional research within a longitudinal population-based cohort study among 966 participants to study the relationship between diet and brain rust.</p>
<p>After administering a semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire and quantitative brain magnetic resonance imaging, the researchers established that the higher the adherence to a Mediterranean-like diet, the lower the volume of white matter hyperintensities in a person&#8217;s brain. This only goes on to prove that a diet rich in fresh vegetables and fruit, legumes, and olive oil and considerably low in red meat, processed meat and dairy products, can have a big effect in defending you against vascular illnesses affecting the brain.</p>

<p>It won&#8217;t do any good to worry about it now. Diet studies have participants divided into a diet-only group and an exercise and diet group. I bet you didn&#8217;t need a study to tell you about the results. You&#8217;re right if you guessed that the diet-only group LOST significantly LESS abdominal fat than the diet-exercise group.</p>
<p>Rather than beat yourself up about the added weight, just adopt a new routine that includes regular exercise and a healthy diet. It is so easy to fall for the quick solution of diet-only but it fails to remove that stubborn stomach fat.</p>
<p>Sometimes just the thought of starting an exercise routine is enough to have a drink or some chocolate. Start doing anything else but cardio exercises. You have to care for yourself and not give in to the easy path of avoidance and no discipline. If you need an exercise-diet buddy then get one. If you need to join an exercise group, then get off the giant bean bag that you have permanently deformed and sign up.</p>
<p>Now before you just start exercising like your neighbor and his German Sheppard who run 5 miles every morning, learn a little about what is effective and what is a waste of time or even dangerous. Don&#8217;t start some ab exercises because that shapely person on the TV says so. You are only going to frustrate yourself when after a couple of months you haven&#8217;t made any progress.</p>
<p>Believe me when I list below the two most important aspects of getting rid of visceral fat. I know you learned before this that visceral fat is the fat deposited around your stomach area and resides in between the internal organs. Bad stuff.</p>
<p>1. Develop for YOUR body a set of high intensity exercises and a full-body resistance training routine. Low intensity cardio exercise isn&#8217;t going to remove anyone&#8217;s visceral fat. High intensity exercise such as interval training or full-bodyweight training provide an additional benefit. These exercises are very effective at helping to improve your body&#8217;s ability to manage glucose and increases insulin sensitivity, a crucial step in removing visceral fat.</p>
<p>These types of high intensity exercise routines are also very effective at increasing your fat-burning hormones and creating a hormonal environment conducive to burning off abdominal fat, including visceral fat.
