Hair Loss Treatment Options

Many men experience the loss of hair sometimes at an early age. This is accepted by most men and society as normal. On the other hand, women who experience the loss of their hair deem it as a tragedy. Since women do much more with their hair than men it becomes a goal in their life to seek a hair loss treatment that can give them back their curly locks.

For someone who experiences the loss of hair, it can be a devastating time. Your hair has everything to do with how you perceive yourself. Many people who begin seeing the loss also start to have a low self-esteem. They perceive their hair as a direct image of their self and losing it is like losing a part of their soul.

There are several different ways to combat thinning hair including DHT inhibitors, anti-androgens, growth stimulators, anti-inflammatories, super dioxide dismutase and laser treatments. Each of these performs a different duty to help slow the loss and in some cases help hair to begin growing again. All of them require a prescription from a physician.

The DHT or Dihydrotestosterone inhibitors work to decrease the levels of DHT that the body produces. High levels of dihydrotestosterone are one of the main contributors of male pattern baldness. By blocking some of the production of this hormone, the loss of hair slows enabling more hair to grow. Anti-androgens work in the same way only in a different stage of the process.

Growth stimulators do not actually stop hair loss but they do stimulate the scalp. These are usually topical solutions that are intended to be placed directly on the scalp and massaged in to help stimulate new growth. Because they do not slow hair loss you will still notice the hair thinning. As the scalp is stimulated in thin areas you may see new hair sprouting.

Sometimes it is not hormones at all that cause the loss of hair but rather inflammation of the scalp. Inflammation may include itching, flaking and redness and can cause hair to weaken in the follicle. Anti-inflammatories help relieve these symptoms, therefore allowing the follicle to become stronger. This means that the hair is less likely to fall out because of weak root systems.

Super Oxide Dismutase or SOD actually helps defend the hair. Large amounts of DHT attack the hair as if it was a germ by producing super oxide. SOD products reduce the super oxide so it no longer tries to attack the follicle. It will not make the hair grow but it will prevent other hair from falling out. This make the hair grow much healthier than other hair loss products.

Blood flow is another cause of thinning hair or baldness. If the blood flow to the hair is low then it reduces the nutrients the hair absorbs. Low levels of laser can help increase the flow of blood and allows the follicle to absorb all the nutrients it was once lacking. There are other forms of hair loss treatments and your physician may recommend others.
